Manchester Friendship Centre Comes of Age

Following a major conference for retired people in Manchester, a tentative group met in October 1988 and so was born the very first friendship centre of the then Association of Retired People.

Now, 21 years later, the Manchester Friendship Centre has celebrated its coming of age with 37 of its members enjoying a special lunch at The Malmaison Hotel in the city centre.

Seen here, cutting the birthday cake, are four of the founder members - Verena Crossley, Joy and John Close, and Molly Bordill.

Manchester is an Independent Friendship Centre and also a Member of the Friendship Centre Federation
